I. REPORT OF HAZING INCIDENT

“Hazing” shall be defined as any activity expected of or action taken against an undergraduate as a condition of gaining membership into the fraternity and which humiliates, degrades, abuses or endangers the victim regardless of his willingness to participate.

STEP ONE: Remove member from the premises until investigation is complete and the extent of any appropriate discipline has been determined. Fees owed under housing contract may be prorated, credited or returned at the discretion of the Housing Corporation upon request, but only in the event that the undergraduate is cleared of any hazing allegations.

STEP TWO: Contact the KU Student Conduct Office, KU Intra-Fraternity Council, KU Greek Life Office and National Phi Kappa Psi Headquarters to report the alleged activity and fully cooperate with all directives issued by each entity. Help facilitate coordination between offices as needed.

STEP THREE: Interview each chapter member with personal knowledge as to the allegations unless directed otherwise. Report findings to each of the above entities.

STEP FOUR: Once a full investigation has been completed by the chapter and any other investigating entity, the chapter Judiciary Committee shall vote on discipline as appropriate and the chapter shall fully cooperate and/or help facilitate any other disciplinary measures promulgated by any other entity.

II. REPORT OF AN ALCOHOL-RELATED OCCURRENCE CAUSING INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE

STEP ONE: Call 911 immediately for emergency assistance if needed.

STEP TWO: Contact the KU Intra-Fraternity Council, KU Greek Life Office and National Phi Kappa Psi Headquarters to report the alleged activity and fully cooperate with all directives issued by each entity. Help facilitate coordination between offices as needed. Also contact the KU Student Conduct Office if the occurrence is believed to have been caused by a hazing event or if warranted for any other reason. Call law enforcement if deemed necessary based upon the nature of the occurrence.

STEP THREE: Interview each chapter member with personal knowledge as to the allegations unless directed otherwise. Report findings to each of the above entities.

STEP FOUR: Once a full investigation has been completed by the chapter and any investigating entity, the chapter Judiciary Committee shall vote on discipline as appropriate and the chapter shall fully cooperate and/or help facilitate any other disciplinary measures promulgated by any other entity.

III. REPORT OF SEXUAL ASSAULT BY A CHAPTER MEMBER (REGARDLESS OF INITIATION STATUS OF THE MEMBER)

STEP ONE: Call 911 immediately for emergency assistance if needed.

STEP THREE: Contact the KU Student Conduct Office, KU Intra-Fraternity Council, KU Greek Life Office, and National Phi Kappa Psi Headquarters to report the alleged activity and fully cooperate with all directives issued by each entity. Help facilitate coordination between offices as needed including coordination with Title IX Office. Fully cooperate with all law enforcement investigations including the preservation of evidence.

STEP FOUR: Interview each chapter member with personal knowledge as to the allegations unless directed otherwise. Report findings to each of the above entities.

STEP FIVE: Once a full investigation has been completed by the chapter and any investigating entity, the chapter Judiciary Committee shall vote on discipline as appropriate and the chapter shall fully cooperate and/or help facilitate any other disciplinary measures promulgated by any other entity.

IV. MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS

STEP ONE: Call 911 immediately for emergency assistance if needed.

STEP TWO: Contact the KU Greek Life office for campus resources and programs for students at risk.

V. POLICY ON CONTACTING PARENT OF MEMBER

All chapter members are of majority age. If an event set out under §§I-IV occurs, it shall be the policy of the chapter to contact the member’s parent or guardian of record to advise of the circumstances unless the chapter member is able to communicate and specifically requests otherwise.

VI. POLICY ON MEDIA INQUIRIES OR PUBLIC COMMENT

In the event of media inquiry, protests or other activity, it shall be chapter policy not to comment on allegations while any investigation is pending.
